Bristol Novel 2017

This page contains a link to all the information and posts about the Bristol Novel project.

The methodology for the Bristol Novel has changed as the tournament faced challenges that made it an unattractive process in the end. I won’t be comparing novels for the time being, but instead will be writing about each author and book or books.

The idea for a Bristol book tournament came to me after I saw that the LA times were hosting one for the best LA book and I thought if they can do it then so can we. There’s a little more background at this link which I put together nearly a year ago now. The final count of books on the list is 64 and the countdown and review period starts this week, July 2014.

I have sorted the books into eight groups of eight in line with seedings and genre where I could identify them. The groups are here.

  1. BBC TV are making a programme The Books that Made Britain. For Bristol they have chosen: Treasure Island, Respectable Trade, Junk and Where’s My Money? The programme is scheduled to be aired 16 October 2016.

    1. Thank you for letting me know! I’m looking forward to seeing what they say about them. It will also give me the chance to read Junk, which I haven’t touched yet. They made an excellent choice with Where’s My Money?.
